The Indian Education Parent Liaison is responsible for providing additional services to Native American students throughout the district. Functions of the position include, but are not limited to collecting documentation for eligibility (CDIB or 506 forms), and maintaining these records for Indian Education Eligibility. In addition, assist the schools in communications with Native American students and their parents or guardians.
Examples of duties are as follows: • Establishing and maintaining lines of communication between Native Americans, the Native American community and the school district through meetings, newsletters, and personal contact. • Evaluating existing programs and materials for their validity and relevance to the needs, expectations, and desires of the Native American community. • Serving as a resource person to the staff members in planning and revising curriculum. • Working with school district staff members in meeting any special needs of Native American students referred to them. • Enlisting the attention and support of Native Americans in the community for the programs and goals of the schools and school district. • Assisting school personnel with identifying and maintaining documentation for Native American students, including health records, enrollment forms, CBID and 506 forms, etc. as needed for Title VII, Johnson-O’Malley, and Impact Aid reporting. • Developing and maintaining good relationships between the student’s home life and the school to benefit the education of Native American students. • Attending faculty and parent committee meetings. • Attending other meetings and trainings as requested by the Director of Curriculum. • Providing monthly reports of contacts and activities to the Director of Curriculum. • Provide personal advising and tutoring to Native American students to help them succeed in the schools and transition to the “after-school” environments. • Referring Native American students as needed for behavioral or physical health agencies. • Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/Or Competencies Required To Successfully Perform The Work: • Knowledge of the Native American culture and community.
• Knowledge of effective tutoring methods • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. • Ability to attend meetings after school hours and evenings when requested. • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and District information. • Ability to pass a background clearance and fingerprint check. • Ability to maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ First Aid - preferred.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required For Entry Into Position: • Associates degree, Paraprofessional certification or comparable qualification to meet the requirements of the “No Child Left Behind” programming. • Experience in related areas preferred. • Valid driver’s license required.

Terms of Employment: 12 Month At Will (Monday-Thursday)
Travel required between schools.
